Equine Studies, Bachelor of Science

The equine studies major focuses on student skill development in the areas of equine welfare, health and care, facility management, training, riding instruction, equine assisted activities, and business.  Throughout the program, students will engage in hands-on equestrian sessions, learn how to assess and address common training challenges, refine their communication and leadership skills, and develop effective training plans tailored to the goals and abilities of both horse and rider.  Emphasis will be placed on cultivating a compassionate and ethical approach to horsemanship, prioritizing the welfare and well-being of the horse in all training practices.

The equine studies major requires the completion of 54 credits and leads to a bachelor of science degree.

In addition to the major requirements listed above, students will need to complete a general education curriculum and elective courses to earn 120 credits which is mandatory for earning a Greenville University degree.  Details about the general education curriculum can be found in the Academic Information section of this catalog.  Some general education requirements are met through required major courses which reduces the number of required general education credits.  Students should work closely with their advisor to put together an academic plan to make sure all degree requirements are met in a timely manner.
