2022-2023 Undergraduate Catalog

PSYC 112 Developmental Psychology

Developmental psychology will introduce you to the scientific study of human development—how we develop from infancy to old age. You will experience new ways of thinking about what makes us who we are by examining how we grow, change, and remain the same throughout our lives.

Developmental psychology takes a holistic view of development by considering human growth from three interrelated domains: the physical, the cognitive, and the psychosocial (which includes emotional, personality, and social development). You will learn about each domain as it functions at each stage of development, eventually resulting in a unique adult with goals, relationships, strengths and weaknesses, and a distinct personality—someone exactly like you. In this course, you will learn to apply this information not only to your own life and but also to the lives of the people around you. In the process, you will influence their personal, social, and professional worlds in new and practical ways.
