Communication
Assistant Professor--Matthew Bernico
Media and culture are intimately connected. The big ideas of our culture are built and circulate through our interaction with television, film, music, podcasts, and journalism. Understanding how to make and reflect on our media culture are critical competencies for our increasingly media-saturated world. Greenville University’s Media Communication program gives students the skills to examine the relationship between media and culture.
Students in this program develop the skills to work in emerging fields of media production to build a positive and critical citizenry.
Program Mission Statement
Marshall McLuhan famously stated, "Environments are not passive wrappings, but are, rather, active processes which are invisible." In light of this insight, the Greenville University Media Communication department trains students to see, understand and critique the underlying communication structures and infrastructures that shape the world they live in. Throughout a student's course of study, they will research the theories, skills, and literacies necessary for living in a digital world. The Media Communication program guides students in becoming faithful and creative media makers. Through the transformative experience of this program, students learn how to understand our culture and how to shape it into something faithful, ethical and interesting.
