Master of Arts in Education Program

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Master of Arts in Education program, an applicant is required to submit:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited undergraduate institution.
  2. A completed Greenville University graduate program application.
  3. Official transcripts from all previously attended educational institutions.

Full Admission: Student has met all requirements. All students seeking licensure must be admitted to the program by the Committee on Teacher Education (COTE).

Transfer Credit

Students may apply to transfer a maximum of six credits into the Master of Arts in Education program from other institutions or Greenville University programs.  To qualify, students must demonstrate:

  1. At least a C was earned in the course,
  2. The course was completed at an accredited institution,
  3. The course was taken at the 400 or above level, and
  4. The course was not part of the student’s undergraduate degree.

Undergraduate Greenville credits can be counted as transfer and are subject to the limit.

Within each of the four MAE program concentrations, two elective courses will be allowed.

Degree Requirements

The Master of Arts in Education program consists of 30-35 semester credits.  Students in the MAE program complete a set of core courses and then courses in one of four concentrations.  The program includes a capstone requirement that brings the core courses and concentration together.  The four concentrations include: Coaching (33 cr), Curriculum and Instruction (30 cr), Special Education (30 cr), and TESL (30 cr).  Within each concentration, students are able to identify two elective courses which may fall outside their concentration.  This is based on the Greenville University philosophy that a graduate student's wide interest and exploration of the liberal arts makes interesting teachers.

Students completing the Master of Arts program must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain in their program. Programs leading to licensure must be completed within five years of matriculation. If more time lapses, the student may need to repeat or take additional courses to meet state standards.
