Programs, Faculty, and Staff

The School of Education at Greenville University is designed to prepare teachers in eight initial licensure areas and one non-licensure program at the Undergraduate level. The programs include Early Childhood Education, Elementary (a traditional program and an undergraduate teacher education partnership-UTEP), Middle Grades, Secondary Education, Special Education, Physical Education, and Spanish Education.

At the graduate level, we offer an initial license in Elementary Education and Early Childhood with our MAT program. Our non-licensure Master of Arts in Education (MAE) programs are available for Coaching (MAE-C), Curriculum and Instruction (MAE-C&I), Teaching English as a Second Language (MAE-TESL), and Special Education (MAE-SPED). Greenville University also offers special coursework, which may lead to an endorsement in LBS1, Drivers Education, Early Childhood Education and TESL. Candidates are required to present a form verifying necessary coursework to the ISBE in order to receive those endorsements.

Committee on Teacher Education (COTE)

The teacher education governing unit, which is referred to as Committee on Teacher Education (COTE), is recognized as a standing committee by Greenville University and consists of the following: advisors of education majors, all full-time teacher education faculty, program directors, partnership liaisons, Director of Clinical Practice and Field Experiences in Education, Coordinator of Accreditation, the Licensure Officer as voting members; and the Registrar, admissions representative, and the Director of the School of Education, and the Coordinator, Education Innovation, as non-voting members. This group has governance responsibility for the program. Because membership in COTE is based on faculty and administrative roles rather than election or appointment, all members of COTE are ex-officio.

Community Planning Counsel (CPC)

The Community Planning Counsel is made up of stakeholders within the community and those within the field. They are invested in the future teachers from Greenville and ensuring the mission and vision of both the University and the School of Education are implemented. These groups meet to review assessment and survey data to help plan future curriculum for students within our School of Education.
