Accreditation and Affiliations

The university has been accredited since 1947 by the Higher Learning Commission as an institution granting the bachelor’s degree, and since 1996 granting the master’s degree. Institutional membership is held in the American Council on Education, the Association of American Colleges, the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, the Federation of Illinois Independent Colleges and Universities, the National Commission of Education, and other professional organizations. It is one of the universities approved officially by the Free Methodist Church of North America, and is recommended to any members who want to pursue Christian higher education.

Since 1975-76, the education program has been accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education, which participates in an interstate licensure agreement with 37 other states and the District of Columbia. In 2014, Greenville University received accreditation under the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) standards. Now Greenville University is accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Institutional memberships include the American and Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education in Private Colleges, the American and Illinois Association for School, College and University Staffing, and the Association of Christian Schools International.

In 2018, Greenville University's social work program was accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Greenville University is authorized by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to offer courses at The Contemporary Music Center in Nashville, Tennessee.  This authorization must be renewed each year and is based on an evaluation of minimum standards concerning the quality of Education, ethical business practices, and fiscal responsibility.  Authorization was first granted by the Commission in 2021.
