Spiritual Formation
Spiritual formation events seek to help equip the University community to live out their Christian faith in all settings and circumstances of life, strengthen community ties, allow persons the opportunity to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and integrate important social, moral, and intellectual issues in a Christian faith and learning context. A Greenville University education is not complete without spiritual formation. Spiritual formation is not solely an intellectual or individual activity, rather it is communal and participatory. To this end, the following Spiritual Formation opportunities are available on campus:
The Wednesday Experience (TWE) is our flagship spiritual formation event, helping to unite and spiritually strengthen the Greenville University community through Christian worship. All GU employees and students attend TWE at 9:30 am on Wednesday mornings in HJ Long Gymnasium, making this the only all-community gathering on campus.
Vespers is a student-led worship experience focused on music, testimony, and prayer. Vespers is held each Thursday at 9:30 pm in Whitlock Music Center.
Small groups gather to connect with others and God as well as to reflect on topics of faith and spirituality. Small group topics, leaders, and locations change from semester to semester. Most small groups meet on Monday at 9:30 am but can meet at any time throughout the week.
Community Cafe is held at 9:30 am in the Dinning Commons on Fridays so that we can share in conversation around a table while eating breakfast. Discussion will take the topic from TWE that week and go deeper.
The University Chaplain is also available to meet with students to provide prayer, encouragement, and a listening ear.
