This course will examine the different ethical and legal issues that can arise in hospice healthcare, and examine how students can manage these issues while supporting patients, families, and caregivers in the healthcare system. Students will consider how these various ethical and legal issues can affect patient care, including the development of interventions and their evaluation. Training in effective communication skills will also be provided. The main ethical debates in healthcare including truth-telling, communication, cultural relativism, nutrition, and difficult end of life decisions will also be considered, along with the legal issues that will affect them most in their roles.
