Admission to the Program

Admission to Greenville University does not assure admission to the School of Education. The program requisites are significantly more rigorous than requirements for other university majors.

Admission to on-campus licensure programs

To be eligible for admission and to be allowed to continue in Teacher Education, candidates must submit an application for admission to the program, meet the stated checkpoints outlined in this guide, and receive approval by votes from the Committee on Teacher Education (COTE).

Admission from Partnership Schools

Students interested in the undergraduate Teacher Education program from a partnering institution (Kaskaskia College, Lewis & Clark Community College, Lincoln Land Community College, Lake Land Community College, Southwestern Illinois College, or Lake Land College) enroll at the partnership school for the 100 and 200 level courses leading to an associate degree (Associate of Arts or Associate of Science). Students interested in the graduate Teacher Education program (MAT) will need a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Students should apply to Greenville University as soon as possible and meet with the Greenville University admissions counselor for off-campus undergraduate programs for advisement on admission requirements as outlined in this guide. Upon completion of admission requirements, Greenville University will offer the balance of the coursework.

Admission to the Teacher Education Program

Undergraduate

Application for admission can be made anytime. It is preferable that it is done no later than during the semester after successful completion of the partnership college’s Introduction to Education course(s): KC-EDUC 101; LCCC-EDUC 230 and EDUC 231; LLCC – EDU 201; SWIC – EDU 255;
Lakeland- EDU 100. Admission is contingent upon:

Successful completion of all prerequisite courses as outlined on the advisement sheet by chosen major
attainment of an Associate of Art or Associate of Science degree from the partnership college,
admission to the program an individual must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
The cohort cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 3.0,
a grade of “C- “or higher in all coursework required for licensure including transfer credit,
receipt of favorable criminal background check (IL State Police using the ORI number and purpose Code provided by Greenville University) (note: drug screening may be required for field experience) and,
approval by the Committee of Teacher Education (COTE).
 

Graduate

Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree from accredited institution;
receipt of official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended reelection a minimum grade point average of 3.0 from at least one degree granting institution;
receipt of favorable fingerprint criminal background check (IL State Police using the ORI Number and Purpose Code provided by Greenville University) (note: drug screening may be required for field experience); and
approval by the COTE.
 

Provisional Admission to the Teacher Education Program Policy

Students in the Teacher Education Program may be considered for provisional admission under following condition (s) if all other admission items are submitted:

1.) The student is missing only two courses toward the completion of the course requirements outlined under the advisement sheet (may not be missing intro to education listed above under admissions to Teacher Education). The course may be a requirement for completion of the associate degree, the student must apply for graduation at the partnering institution and the partnership institution must indicate that their associate degree will be granted prior to the student enrolling in coursework with Greenville University,

2.) or student has a lower than the minimum required GPA of 2.75 (undergraduate) or 3.00 (Graduate) in cumulative institutional coursework, provided the COTE believes there is reasonable chance to obtain the minimum GPA in one semester.

Failure to meet full admission requirements by the end of the provisional semester will result in dismissal from the School of Social Science and School of Education. Students may choose to re- apply once full admission requirements have been met and proof of completion is provided.
 

Admission to on-campus Educational Studies degree:

Students in Education Studies program must meet all requirements for Regular admission to Greenville University. No additional requirements are needed for this program.

Admission to the Master of Education program:

Candidates interested in the Educational Studies and MAE program will seek admission through Greenville University. The Educational Studies and MAE candidates do not have additional requirements.
