DMDA 205 Documentary Filmmaking

In this course, students learn and apply the principles of documentary filmmaking while demonstrating cultural sensitivity to the persons and organizations served. Students learn the principles of cinematography, including appropriate use of shot sizes, camera movements, depth of field, exposure, and focus in the context of documentary filmmaking on location. Students apply principles of audio recording and post-production to create clean audio tracks from footage shot in multiple locations and at various levels of noise. Finally, students learn the discipline of documentary film editing by watching daily footage, creating rough cuts, and producing a finished film in a compressed time span.
