4.20 : Social Media Policy

Greenville may but does not regularly monitor the language and/or actions of students on public social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, etc. While the university defers to the user policies of the social medium being used, it reserves the right to hold students accountable for reported Code of Conduct violations that occur on or are documented through social media platforms.  Students may not use social media to:

1. Harass, defame, discriminate, or slander another

2. Post or send messages which threaten another or attempt to incite imminent lawless action or unlawful harassment

3. Claim or imply that they are speaking on behalf of or representing the University, student organizations, clubs, or athletic teams affiliated with the university. Students are allowed to "run" or moderate accounts for these entities but only with the expressed consent of the entity they are representing.

4. Intentionally inflict emotional distress on others

5. Violate any provisions of Section 4.10 : Network, Computing, and Appropriate Use Policy

6. Violate any section of Illinois Law 720 ILCS 5/22-23.5 regarding the dissemination of private images.
