EDUC 536 Adapted Physical Education

This course is designed to provide prospective teachers with experience in screening and assessment, formulating individualized performance objectives, key teaching and therapy skills, and programming for specific problems in organization and administration in physical education of students with disabilities and/or chronic health issues. Students will also learn about recreational and leisure activities and how to adapt and modify activities to maximize participation with special populations. A brief review of the History and Legislation of Adapted Physical Education is covered. Students will be familiarized with current literature in the field of APE. Students will complete and evaluate a site visit comparable to a Community-Based Education unit based on it accessibility to persons with mobility issues. Students will also conduct an interview with a physical education teacher that provides inclusion activities daily.
