Spanish Education, Bachelor of Science
The Spanish education major leads to a K-12 license, and requires 39 credits of Spanish specialization courses including one semester abroad and 50 hours of professional education. Coursework must include at least four 300 level courses, one in literature and one in culture. One of the 300 level courses must be related to Spain and the other must be related to Latin America. All courses must have the prefix of SPAN. The Spanish education major leads to a bachelor of science degree.
Spanish Education Major Requirements
Core Courses
A proficiency exam is available for SPAN 101 and SPAN 102 for a possible total of six credits. Student who test above SPAN 101 and/or SPAN 102 must have their proficiency credits posted on their GU transcript.
Spanish education majors must complete a semester of study abroad which is approved by the chair of the Modern Languages department and generally involves a home stay. Upon approval of the department, upper division study abroad classes may replace a required course.

In addition to the major requirements listed above, students will need to complete a general education curriculum and elective courses to earn 120 credits which is mandatory for earning a Greenville University degree. Details about the general education curriculum can be found in the Academic Information section of this catalog. Some general education requirements are met through required major courses which reduces the number of required general education credits. Students should work closely with their advisor to put together an academic plan to make sure all degree requirements are met in a timely manner.
