Spanish Education, Bachelor of Science

The Spanish education major leads to a K-12 license and requires 30 credits beyond SPAN 102 (a total of 36 credits are needed).  Coursework must include 300 level courses that concentrate on four unique areas: literature, culture, Spain, and Latin America.  All courses must have the prefix of SPAN.  Students in consultation with their advisor may select courses from the list below.  The major also includes 53 credits of professional education.  The Spanish education major leads to a bachelor of science degree.

A proficiency exam is available for SPAN 101 and SPAN 102Student who place above SPAN 101 or SPAN 102 must have proficiency credits posted on their GU transcript.  Information about Credit by Proficiency can be found in the Academic section of the catalog.

Spanish education majors are encouraged to complete a study abroad semester which generally involves a home stay.  Upon approval of the department, upper division study abroad classes may replace a required coursework.

In addition to the major requirements listed above, students will need to complete a general education curriculum and elective courses to earn 120 credits which is mandatory for earning a Greenville University degree.  Details about the general education curriculum can be found in the Academic Information section of this catalog.  Some general education requirements are met through required major courses which reduces the number of required general education credits.  Students should work closely with their advisor to put together an academic plan to make sure all degree requirements are met in a timely manner.
