Employment Categories

Greenville University has established the following categories for both exempt and nonexempt employees:

Regular, Full- Time

Employees who are not in a temporary status and who are regularly scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week. Generally, these employees are eligible for the full benefits package, subject to the terms, conditions and limitation of each benefit program.

Regular, Part-Time

Employees who are not in a temporary status and who are regularly scheduled to work at least 20 hours each week and less than 30 hours per week. Regular part-time employees are eligible for some of the benefits offered by the University subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of each benefits program. Regular, part-time employees are not eligible for the University insurance benefits. 

Regular, Part-Time employees do not qualify for pay for holidays that may occur during their work period, and service awards. 

Temporary 

Temporary employees work jobs of limited duration, normally up to a maximum of six months and up to 27 hours per week, related to special projects, abnormal workloads, emergencies, and other situations. Adjuncts and seasonal coaches are temporary employees. Temporary employees are not eligible for benefits. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status.

A record of hours worked by day and by week for temporary employees is required. Temporary employees report their time worked via the online timekeeping system. Temporary employees are paid behind on the pay dates of the 15th and the end of the month. Temporary employees pay periods are the 6th through the 20th paid on the end of the month and the 21st through the 5th paid on the 15th.

Temporary employees do not qualify for employee benefits, including pay for holidays that may occur during their work period, and service awards.

Retired

Retired employees must have at least twenty (20) years equivalent full-time service at Greenville University (See definition of Regular, full-time employee above) or must be at least 60 years of age and have at least 10 years equivalent full-time service at Greenville University. Emeriti

Emeritus status is given to those who meet the following criteria:

• Retired from Greenville University in good standing

• At least 20 years of full-time service at Greenville University, or

• At least 60 years of age or have served 10 years equivalent full-time service at Greenville University.

• Nominations are made by their most recent supervisor and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs, with approval from the President. Acting upon nominations received, emeritus status is   granted by the Board of Trustees. In the case of unusual circumstances, emeritus status may be recommended by the President. 

Student Workers/Student Employment

See the Student Employment Guidelines. Student workers are not eligible for benefits.

Requests for part-time student employees must be submitted in writing to the Financial Aid Office, which is responsible for posting open student positions. Supervisors must complete the student employment authorization form. Students must complete all necessary paperwork before beginning work. Students will not be entered as a student worker until the proper paperwork has been completed and approved.

Faculty

Faculty status is indicated by designation in the contract, letter of appointment, or other designation from the president. 

Adjunct Faculty

Adjunct faculty is indicated by a designation in the letter of appointment as teaching on a term-to-term or course- to- course basis.

Adjunct instructional workloads are calculated as follows: 1 credit hour (course credit not load credit) = 3.25 work hours per week. Adjunct faculty are limited to a maximum of 9 credit hours of instruction or 29.25 work hours in any work week beginning Sunday and ending Saturday.
