EDUC 569 Strategies: Child/Adolescent Lit

This course examines high quality children's and adolescent literature and the role they serve in developing critical thinking readers and writers. Major areas of focus include; using literature as a hook to entice students into reading and writing, creating powerful strategy focus lessons based on literature, modeling powerful questions the literature supports, building a series of focus lessons that deepen student understanding of a comprehension strategy, using classroom talk as a springboard to greater understanding of text, and using literature to model strategies good readers use.
