2.6.1.1 : Informal Actions
The goal of a developmental approach to student discipline is to resolve conflict and restore a person’s relationship to the community. Self-discipline, peer accountability and informal confrontations or communications with duly appointed representatives of the institution, i.e., faculty, staff, coaches, Community Life Officers, are the preferred sequence of actions. When informal means of discipline are exhausted and/or one’s behavior repeatedly violates university policy and behavioral expectations, the student will be subject to formal Institutional Disciplinary procedures. Any student involved incident that requires the generation of an incident report from a source other than self-reporting, immediately becomes subject to the formal disciplinary process. Any disciplinary actions taken will be imposed in the best interest of both the student and the institution. University sanctions are independent of other sanctions which may be imposed because of civil or criminal prosecution.
