The McAllaster Scholars Program

The McAllaster Scholars are named after Dr. Elva McAllaster, who taught the first “honors” course at Greenville College from the 1950’s until into the 1980’s. Beginning in 1996 a full fledged honors program was established, named in her honor. Today the McAllaster Scholars program nurtures students who are academically gifted to serve God and neighbor through the work of Christian learning and scholarship.

The McAllaster Scholars honors program at Greenville University is a program for students who aspire to a more engaging and enriching collegiate experience. The program synthesizes the idea of a collaborative learning community within an interdisciplinary curriculum and co-curriculum focused on producing persons of faith committed to live lives of character and service.

As learning cohorts progress through the curriculum together, they also participate in activities that encourage them to learn together outside of the classroom. When these students transition into their major programs, they begin to participate in individual research projects working with professors in their respective disciplines.

Students who graduate as part of The McAllaster Scholars program are awarded a special medallion and receive recognition at commencement and on their transcript.
