Academic Year Contracts
The terms and conditions under which each faculty member will be functioning on-campus will be placed in writing in a contract submitted to each faculty member on or about March 1 of each academic year. The faculty member will then have 30 days to return the contract and thereby establish a formal agreement relative to services in the following year. Faculty contracts will specify the beginning and closing dates of responsibilities.
The position of the University is that all contracts between the University and faculty members are legally as well as morally binding and thus the University assumes that such agreements will be entered into in good faith on the part of both parties. The University assumes that the faculty members in accepting contracts remain in sympathy with the basic philosophy and objectives of the institution and will be enthusiastic about their part in the development of the institution toward these ends.
When a faculty member under contract requests release in order to take another position, or for any but emergency reasons of a health or family nature, the chief academic officer, in
concert with the vice president for finance, will normally tender that faculty member a specification of costs to the University for such release. The question of reimbursement for any or all of these costs will enter into the negotiation for release from the contract.
