Salary Schedules

The salary schedule is issued to the faculty annually and is based primarily on the amount of professional training and years of service. Salary matters and targets are studied by the Faculty
Development Committee, with recommendations made to the administration. Final determinations about salary matters are made by the president. The faculty member’s position on the salary schedule is determined by the president of the University. He or she has available for consultation the chief academic officer, the school dean, the department chair, and the Faculty Development Committee.

One-half of the requirement of University teaching experience (as indicated on the salary scale) may be met by appropriate educational, business, or other experience directly related to the faculty member’s teaching responsibilities at Greenville University. Two years of related experience may be counted as equivalent to one year of University teaching experience.

Examples:

• A public- school administrator’s experience would be considered directly related to teaching in the field of education. Such experience would not count, however, toward teaching English.

• A business executive’s experience would be considered directly related to teaching business administration, but such experience could not be counted in marginal or unrelated areas.

• Clergy experience would be considered directly related to teaching in certain areas of religion.

• A research biologist, chemist, or physicist would have the years of experience counted, provided one is teaching in the biology, chemistry, or physics department.

• Training in a recognized graduate school in an area directly related to the teaching field will be evaluated on a semester-hour basis and will be used in determining one’s position on the salary scale.
