Evaluation of Field Experience
The evaluation of field experiences is extensive and writing intensive. Some of the evaluation formats used are observation forms, logs, journals, and videotapes. Students write reflectively in order to answer specific questions about the experiences. In keeping journals, students record the details of the triumphs and mistakes of their personal experiences. In many classes, students share their points of interest with peers and course instructors. Within other formats, they are asked to summarize, identify, make value judgments, and draw conclusions based on an analysis of their observations. Field experience teachers (FET) and course instructors evaluate the quality of students’ analyses and performance.
