Seminar Requirements

Student teachers will engage in reflective and problem-solving discussions that explore current issues and challenges they have encountered in their respective classrooms. (Meeting time to be determined by university instructor).

Final Evaluation

A final grade of S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) will be assigned for student teaching. To receive a grade of “S”, a passing cut score of 2.75 is required for students completing two placements toward one certification. This score will be determined by the average of the university supervisor’s and the cooperating teacher's final evaluations. For students completing two placements toward one certification, his score will be determined by taking the score from each placement’s final evaluation from the university supervisor and the cooperating teacher to reach the average cut score (final cut score = the supervisor and cooperating teacher average from 1st placement and supervisor and cooperating teacher average from 2nd placement).

EDTPA

Beginning September 1, 2015, each candidate completing an educator preparation program in a teaching field shall be required to pass the edTPA (see Section 21B-30(f) of the School Code).

“The Teacher Performance Assessment is a performance and knowledge assessment for pre-service teachers that is designed to measure teacher candidate effectiveness in the classroom by focusing on student learning. The edTPA consists of five key competencies: planning, assessment, instruction, reflection, and academic language. The process used is similar to the process used for National Board certification. The student teacher must upload a professional portfolio to Pearson’s secure site. Specific items reflecting the competencies must be present in the portfolio including video recordings of the student teacher interacting with students in the classroom, lesson plans, student work samples, analysis of student learning, planning and assessment documentation, and reflective commentaries.
Pearson, ISBE’s testing partner, is responsible for the assessment of the edTPA. Pearson will train evaluators to review the assessments. Evaluators are comprised of university faculty and K-12 educators who are subject matter experts” (ISBE Educator Licensure Division, June 18, 2015).

Additional supporting information related to edTPA may be found in the “Teachers Who Support Teacher Candidates” document (Appendix IV).
