Academic Probation Policy

Once fully admitted to the program, students have a responsibility to demonstrate the ability to complete coursework and fieldwork, including the ability to write clearly.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate students are expected to maintain a grade point level of 2.75 or higher in the Teacher Education programs. Education degree students are put on academic probation when their cumulative GPA is below 2.75. Students on academic probation will be allowed to complete the currently enrolled term and must raise their cumulative GPA to the required 2.75 during the next term in which they are enrolled. Concurrent enrollment in coursework is prohibited during academic probation.

Written notification of academic probation will be issued to the student by the Records Office. Failure to raise the cumulative GPA to 2.75 by the end of their probationary period will result in dismissal from the program.

Graduate

Graduate students are expected to maintain a grade point level of 3.0 or higher in the MAE program. Graduate degree students are placed on academic probation when their cumulative GPA is below 3.0. Students on academic probation will be allowed to complete the currently enrolled term and must raise their cumulative GPA to the required 3.0 during the next term in which they are enrolled. Concurrent enrollment in coursework is prohibited during academic probation.

Written notification of academic probation will be issued to the student by the Records Office. Failure to raise the cumulative GPA to 3.0 by the end of their probationary period will result in dismissal from the program.
Only one academic probation period is allowed per student.
A grade point average below the requisite level for a second time will result indismissal.
Once dismissed due to low GPA, students may not reapply to the program.
It is the student’s responsibility to monitor academic standing.
The student must not be enrolled in coursework beyond the end of the probationary period until the GPA is confirmed by the Records Office as meeting the requisite level.
Students on academic probation will not be allowed to participate in the Capstone Research or Capstone Project.
