Faculty Assembly Officers
1. The moderator of the Faculty Assembly is a tenured faculty member, elected to a two-year term, who will represent the faculty voice to the broader community.
2. An associate moderator is a faculty member elected to a two-year term. This individual, who does not have to be tenured, will, at the discretion of the moderator, share the duties and responsibilities of the moderator. The associate moderator may serve as the moderator’s delegate at meetings of committees of which the moderator is a member ex officio. The moderator and associate moderator share committee work.
3. The secretary is a faculty member, who serves a one-year term. This individual does not need to be tenured, is appointed by the Chief Academic Officer, on recommendation of the moderator and associate moderator. Article IX, Section I of the University Bylaws states that the President shall approve the appointment of the secretary. The secretary produces minutes of the Assembly meetings and other communication at the direction of the moderator and/or Executive Committee.
4. The moderator and associate moderator may be re-elected to the same office for no more than two consecutive terms. The associate moderator may be elected to the moderator position midway in his/her term. If that occurs, a new associate moderator will be elected to serve for the remaining year of the term.
Faculty Assembly Support
To ensure efficiency, the moderator will have access to administrative support through the Office of Academic Affairs. The institution will provide three teaching load credits per year of release time so that the moderator and associate moderator, and secretary may better perform the work of the office. When it is not possible to provide release time, equitable compensation will be provided.
Faculty Action Committee
The Faculty Action Committee (FAC) serves as an ad hoc subcommittee of Faculty Assembly. One or more representatives from each division are elected for the academic year. The FAC does not meet regularly, but can be activated by action of the Faculty Assembly in order to:
- Respond to specific concerns that existing faculty committees aren't able to address.
- Develop proposals requested by Faculty Assembly.
Service on FAC is not counted as a committee assignment. When activated, the FAC will meet as needed and may request the presence of the President, CAO, and other personnel related to the topic of their study.
