Faculty Participation in Governance
The chief responsibility and function of the faculty at Greenville University is teaching, along with its attendant scholarly and service expectations. Teaching and learning, the primary function and responsibility of faculty, are influenced by factors within the University and the larger society. Therefore, faculty must be cognizant of factors that impact education. Furthermore, decisions about the university shape its substance and structure, which also influence teaching and learning. As such, faculty must be involved in the governance of the University if the institution is to fulfill its mission in higher education. Greenville University Bylaws and the Board Policy Manual, approved by the Board of Trustees, specify the nature of the faculty’s involvement in the governance of the University, though the board retains final authority in all University matters.
