Faculty Committees and Areas of Responsibilities

All Faculty Assembly standing committees are charged with developing and reviewing policies and procedures in areas of their responsibilities. Standing committees report to the Chief Academic Officer and the Faculty Assembly. The committees also advise individuals leading committee responsibilities. Additionally, the committees will send recommendations to the appropriate office or body including the President, Chief Academic Officer, moderator of the Faculty Assembly, chair, or other individual or group. Committee agenda items may be suggested to committees by an individual faculty member, another committee or council, or by the administration.

Each standing committee should meet at least once each month, and more often at its own discretion or at the request of the faculty, Faculty Assembly, or the President’s Executive Cabinet. An agenda for each meeting should be sent to committee members and to the Office of Academic Affairs. Except for confidential items, electronic copies of committee minutes should be sent to all committee members and to all Faculty Assembly Executive Committee members, to the President’s Cabinet, and to the Office of Academic Affairs. Minutes should also be filed and archived for faculty access and reference. However, the Faculty Review Committee will not distribute minutes beyond the committee and the Chief Academic Officer. Other committees addressing issues where individual confidentiality should be respected should edit their minutes appropriately prior to general distribution and filing. A year-end summary report of major, but non-confidential, actions taken by committees should be forwarded to the faculty, Office of Academic Affairs, and the President’s Cabinet.

Ad hoc and standing academic committees may be added to facilitate communication and collaboration concerning academic matters not covered by the standing committees listed below. These potential additional committees will consider matters under the purview of faculty as per Article IX, Section II of the Greenville University Bylaws.

The Faculty Assembly Executive Committee may identify up to six faculty members (per year) to be relieved of standing committee assignments in order to undertake professional responsibilities like graduate study and chairing an ad hoc task force.

Standing Committee Membership Selection Procedures

There are three standing committees comprised of elected members:

  • Faculty Assembly Executive Committee,
  • Faculty Review Committee (FRC), and
  • Undergraduate Academic Affairs Committee (UAAC). This is the former Inter-School Academic Affairs Committee (ISAAC).
