Faculty
- In the case of illness, injury, maternity, or dental/medical appointments, faculty may be excused from their regular responsibilities. Sick leave may be taken to care for a child, stepchild, spouse, sibling, parent, stepparent, stepchild, mother-inlaw, father-in-law, grandchild, or grandparent. Sick leave for an absence other than the employee’s is limited to half of the employee’s annual accrued sick leave. These absences are never to be used for other than illness (e.g. vacation.). Medical documentation may be requested of any employee after missing three consecutive days. Faculty members who are ill should notify their department heads or the VPAA of absences due to illness.
- For the purposes of tracking Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), an employee must notify the Office of Payroll and Benefits after three consecutive days of sick leave by completing a request form. This form can be requested from the office of human resources. FMLA leave may be applied when applicable after three consecutive days of absence but is counted from the first day of absence related to a medical condition (see Greenville University’s Family and Medical Leave Guidelines, FMLA leave may extend up to 12 weeks.
- Sick leave and/or FMLA leave for faculty will be paid leave at full salary for 30 working days during a contract year. Please refer to the Paid Parental leave policy for additional leave benefits.
