Sick Leave

Administrative Staff and Staff Regular Full-Time Employees

The University provides paid sick time off to eligible employees who are absent due to illness or injury.

  • Administrative Staff and Staff Regular Full-Time Employees accumulate up to 52.5 hours (7 days) sick leave per fiscal year
  • Sick leave accrues at 2.19 hours per pay period
  • Employees may accumulate up to a maximum of 375 hours (50 days) of unused sick leave
  • Sick leave is granted for personal illness, injury, or medical appointments, or that of the employee’s: child, stepchild, spouse, sibling, parent, stepparent, stepchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandchild, or grandparent. Sick leave for an absence other than the employee’s is limited to half of the employee’s annual accrued sick leave.
  • Sick leave may not be used for anything other than an illness (e.g. vacation, etc.)
  • Medical documentation may be requested of any employee after missing three consecutive days and will require Family Medical Leave Paperwork (FMLA) after three consecutive days 
  • Abuse of these conditions may result in termination of employment
  • There is no cash payment for unused sick leave either during the time of employment or upon termination
  • Administrative Staff and Staff Regular Full-Time employees who work less than 12 months or more than 30 hours per week and less than 37.50 hours per week will have pro-rated sick leave (e.g., an employee who works nine months of the year will receive 9/12 of this benefit). 
  • Nonexempt staff may take sick leave in hourly increments
  • Exempt staff may take sick leave in half-day (3.75 hours) or full-day (7.50 hours) increments.
  • Employees are required to report all sick time used each pay period via the online timekeeping system.
