2.8.50 : Theft of Personal Belongings

For security reasons students should keep their rooms always locked and carry their keys with them when leaving their rooms. If a student finds that theft has occurred, they should report it to their RD and Campus Safety. The University assumes no legal responsibility for misplaced, damaged, or stolen property. To protect a student’s personal property, a renter’s insurance policy can be purchased from local insurance companies, if he/she is not covered by their parent’s homeowners policy. It is each individual student’s responsibility to make the needed arrangements. Students are encouraged to record the serial numbers of valuable electronics to assist with the potential recovery of the items in event of a theft.
