What Every Educator Needs to Know about the Science of Reading

Whether you teach at the secondary level, upper elementary, or work with early learners, you know reading is a foundational skill that has a huge impact on student achievement. This course aims to unpack the body of research known as the “Science of Reading” and provides specific evidence-based strategies for teaching reading at all grade levels and in all subject areas. You’ll learn how reading develops in the brain, review a framework for explicit, systematic and sequential instruction, and explore the 8 strands of Scarborough’s Reading Rope that intertwine to enable skilled reading, including background knowledge, vocabulary, phonological awareness, and decoding.
