Scholarship

In evaluating scholarship, the direct supervisor, dean or the FRC will look at faculty members’ contributions to areas relevant to their teaching and professional interests. Note that this area is an
optional area of evaluation and will be considered only if a faculty member stipulates that it is relevant.

The direct supervisor, dean or FRC will consider whether the faculty member engages in any or all of the following (the order does not denote relative importance):

1. Writes articles for academic journals/ book chapters/ edits or peer reviews.

2. Edits or authors book or journal

3. Offers colloquia, public lectures, concerts, recitals, exhibitions, performances for regional/national/international audiences, or is invited to do so.

4. Produces professional recordings, films, software, websites, art or other special projects.

5. Presents at state/regional/national conferences.

6. Participants in scholarly grant development and/or grant administration.

7. Participants in scholarly activities or creative work in one’s special field.

8. Completes a performance, exhibit, thesis, dissertation, or other culminating project required for a graduate degree.

9. Attending professional organization conferences, meetings, and colloquiums.

10. Evidence of reading, research, or creative work in one’s professional field. Evidence could be a significant annotated bibliography, research notes, creative sketches, etc.

A faculty member will earn ratings based on the following standards:

Scholarship Rating (A Self-Selected criterion)

 Exceptional Commendable Satisfactory  Needing Improvement  Deficient
 An unusually high level of sustained productivity in at least one area of scholarship that is recognized regionally, nationally, or internationally.  Significant and sustained productivity in at least one area of scholarship that is recognized outside the GU community.  Sustained production of scholarly work that is recognized outside the GU community at least periodically.  No recent or infrequent scholarly work or work that is never recognized outside the GU community.  Little or no evidence that the faculty member has engaged in scholarly activity.
