EDUA 5638 Relationships with Students
CREATING MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS AND SETTING BOUNDARIES WITH YOUR STUDENTS
This course examines the fundamental concepts and strategies involved in building meaningful relationships and setting boundaries with your students. Research has shown that a positive correlation exists between increased student achievement and the experience of a positive teacher–student relationship. These relationships also have an impact on the self-esteem of students, which may increase their interest in school, reduce the rates of dropping out, provide support for further academic development, and peer acceptance of students. This course is designed to give the teacher a thorough understanding of interpersonal relationships, Learner-Centered Instruction (LCI), the role of the teacher as a facilitator and advisor, the impact of the learning environment on the development of meaningful relationships, authentic learning, and inquiry-based teaching. Finally, the teacher will learn techniques and strategies to apply in the classroom to build meaningful relationships and establish clear boundaries with their students.
