EDUA 5708 Educator's Guide to the Common Core
AN EDUCATOR’S GUIDE TO THE COMMON CORE
This course provides the teacher with an introductory overview of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These standards were developed with the aim of ensuring that students in every state be held to the same level of expectations, as they gain the knowledge and skills to prepare them for college and careers.
In this course, the teacher will learn how and why the CCSS was developed, and come away with a practical understanding of what implementation looks like in math and English Language Arts (ELA) instruction. The teacher will also learn how to infuse the CCSS into other subject areas, such as science and social studies. Finally, the course contains ongoing assessment strategies to help teachers understand how assessment (beyond year-end summative evaluations) works within the CCSS.
