EDUA 5949 Making Thinking Visible
MAKING THINKING VISIBLE
What is thinking? It is a process that is referenced in classrooms every day, but how often do we stop and consider what it really looks like? What are the best instructional practices to promote active, higher-level thinking that is visible to both teachers and students?
This course will provide the teacher with the knowledge and skills to create an environment that fosters and supports an active culture of thinking and learning in the classroom. After taking this course, teachers will be able to plan explicit instruction that makes thinking more visible for both the teacher and the students. As students develop a greater awareness of their own metacognitive strategies and problem-solving skills, they become more independent and capable of directing their own learning through the use of specific thought mechanisms.
