Institutional Review Board (IRB)
Membership
Membership is composed of at least four faculty and one non-affiliated community resident. Members are selected from various backgrounds to represent both expertise and experience with scientific research, and consideration for diversity of sex, race, ethnicity, and community relations. Refer to US Human Department of Health and Human Services, regulation number 45cfr46.107.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities below are based on the US Human Department of Health and Human Services, regulation number 45cfr46.109.
• Ensure that all research involving human participants is carried out legally, ethically, and in agreement with federal regulations.
• Review and approve research proposals and changes to research plans, as well as materials (when appropriate), to ensure appropriate safeguards for human participants, security for data, and compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.
• Develop and disseminate procedures for researchers, including but not limited to college faculty, staff, and students.
