Responsibilities

UAAC will guide and approve changes to majors, departments, school/college alignment, and/or curricular changes that are within the scope of the committee’s work as per Article IX, Section II of the University Bylaws.

UAAC shall oversee the integrity of academic programs by fulfilling these tasks:

• Facilitate communication between colleges regarding academic policies.

• Review and approve curricular changes for academic programs.

• Receive reports regarding reviews and assessment of general education offerings.

• Approve, upon recommendation from the General Education and Assessment Committee, courses that fulfill the general education categories and changes to existing courses.

• Advocate for needed and appropriate resources to perform all aspects of curriculum and academic programming.

• Recommend admissions, honors, probation/dismissal, and graduation requirements and policies.

The above tasks relate to changes that are faculty initiated. As such, if the administration wishes to implement changes, they will bring a proposal to the UAAC and convey a rationale for such proposal. This will allow the committee to discuss the proposed changes with the administration and accept, reject, or recommend modifications to the proposal. The administration has the right to override the committee vote, and in these situations, a rationale for the decision will be communicated to the committee.

To ensure that the university provides general education with high impactful outcomes, faculty members serve in a specially constituted committee that oversees general education.
