General Education and Assessment Committee

This committee merges two former committees: the General Education and the Assessment Committees whose responsibilities often overlapped. This committee reports to and feeds into the work of the UAAC.

Membership

Membership includes a faculty representative from each academic divisions appointed by the Chief Academic Officer to staggered three-year terms, one representative from the Registrar’s Office, Dean/Director of Assessment, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, Dean of Experiential Learning, the Accreditation Liaison Officer, or designee, and one student (selected in consultation with the student government officers and the staff person who supervises student government).

Responsibilities

  • Promotes education improvements campus-wide by supporting and engaging in effective outcomes assessment.
  • Provides educational and professional development opportunities related to student outcomes assessment.
  • Develops and implements the assessment plan for the General Education program and the institutional assessment plan.
  • Provides reports to UAAC, the faculty, and other constituents regarding student performance on the General Education learning objectives.
  • Recommends to UAAC approval or elimination of courses for the various categories of the General Education program.
  • Recommends to UAAC approval of courses that fulfill Writing Intensive, Quantitative Reasoning requirements, and Global Foundations requirements.
  • Monitors and reports to UAAC whether appropriate resources are available to carry out the General Education program.
  • Under the direction of the Dean/Director of Assessment, consults with program directors/chairs for feedback on program review documents.
