Attendance and Punctuality
Employees are expected to be reliable and punctual. Attendance and punctuality are important aspects of employee job performance and efficient University operations.
Employees who cannot come to work or will be late for any reason must personally notify their supervisor as far in advance as possible before the start of their scheduled work time.
Unexcused and/or excessive absences or tardiness can disrupt work and University operations and inconvenience other employees. Employees who incur excessive and/or unexcused absences or tardiness, or patterns of absenteeism or tardiness, may result in discipline, up to an including termination of employment, even if the employee has not yet exhausted available paid time off.
Absences due to illnesses or injuries that qualify under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or are otherwise protected by applicable law will not be counted against an employee’s attendance record. Medical or other documentation may be required in these instances.
Not reporting to work and not calling to report the absence is a no-call/no-show and is a serious matter. The first instance of a no call/no show will result in a final written warning. The second separate offense may result in termination of employment with no additional disciplinary steps. A no call/no show lasting three days may be considered job abandonment and may be deemed an employee’s voluntary resignation of employment.
