Internal Transfers and Promotions

Employees are generally expected to serve in the position for which they are hired for at least twelve months prior to transferring to another position within the University. The Cabinet member responsible for the area in which the employee is serving may approve exceptions where there is a clear institutional benefit. At the same time, the University may initiate transfers of employees between departments and facilities to meet specified work requirements and reassignment of work requirements.

Employees interested in applying for another position on campus must complete the application process for the position, must have held their current position for at least 12 months, have a satisfactory performance record, and have no disciplinary actions during the last twelve months. If an employee is invited for an interview, the employees should notify their supervisor of their intent to transfer if offered the position. Approved transfers will generally occur following a 30- day transition period.

Greenville University offers employees promotions to higher-level positions when appropriate. Management may first consider current employees with the necessary qualifications and skills to fill vacancies and may prefer to promote from within, unless outside recruitment is considered to be in the University’s best interest.

Management retains the discretion to make exceptions to the policy.
