EDUA 5110 Arts Education for Early Learning
ARTS EDUCATION FOR EARLY LEARNING AND EMERGENT LITERACY
The arts surround us in everything we hear, see, and feel; provide emotional context for our experiences; and heighten our awareness of the world around us. The arts also deepen learning for students. In this course, teachers learn how to navigate arts-based educational strategies to foster creative thinking skills and nurture the continuing growth of children’s literacy skills and cognitive development. The teacher will learn what the arts are; why they are important; how they contribute to a child’s social-emotional, cognitive, creative, and psychomotor learning; and how they can be a part of everyday literacy instruction. With easy-to-use, pedagogical models, the teacher will discover how to intentionally plan arts activities and lessons to deliver classroom content and embrace arts-based strategies as effective and powerful learning tools.
