HEALTH, WELLNESS, AND FITNESS: A NEW LOOK
The prevalence of obesity in children has more than tripled in the last three decades. Obesity is a major concern for students’ physical health, but it can also have negative impacts on mental health (higher rates of bullying and depression). Children spend a great deal of time in schools, so teachers can aid in the development of healthy habits. Although healthy students likely lead to healthy adults, making smarter decisions regarding physical, nutritional and mental health helps promote sharper minds and stronger learning opportunities.

This course provides activities for the elementary, middle, and high school classroom that span multiple dimensions of health and wellness. The teacher will learn techniques to foster students’ emotional wellbeing, nutritional health, and physical fitness, as well as methods to address his or her own health and wellness.
