EDUA 5643 Supporting Teens with ADD/ADHD
STRATEGIES FOR SUPPORTING TEENAGERS WITH ADD/ADHD
Research has found that for teenagers with Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD), it is imperative that they have teachers that believe in them. Academic and interpersonal success often eludes ADD/ADHD students, especially once they reach high school. Since 90% of those with attention deficits will face serious social or academic challenges at some point in their school career, it is crucial for teachers to understand why and how these students struggle.
This course describes the characteristics of ADD/ADHD and their impact on a teenager’s behavior and school performance. The teacher will learn specific prevention and intervention strategies for a host of symptoms that interfere with success. Finally, the teacher will understand the impact of ADD/ADHD medications, and how to monitor and support students who take them.
