TEACHING READING AND WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM
Struggling readers and writers are not only at a disadvantage in English class, but also in all subjects. Complicating matters for struggling readers/writers is that each discipline has it’s own unique vocabulary, calls for different types of close reading, and requires writing in formats and styles particular to that field. Content area teachers need strategies and techniques in order to be able to teach the reading and writing skills specific to their subject.

This course is designed to provide content area teachers with the skills necessary to integrate content specific vocabulary, reading, and writing skills into their broader curriculum. This course includes numerous strategies and ready-to-use activities for teaching reading and writing skills for all level of students, which will equip the teacher to help even the lowest skilled students.
