EDUA 5809 Discussing Violence/Trauma K-8

FACILITATING DISCUSSIONS ABOUT VIOLENCE AND TRAUMA IN THE CLASSROOM (K-8)
Children are strongly impacted by tragedy and crisis in the world around them. Responses to global, local, and personal tragedy may lead to feelings of anger, fear, and sadness as well as difficulty performing in the educational environment. This course will create awareness around how learners process these events. Teachers will gain strategies for helping students engage in respectful, meaningful dialogues with peers and other members of their community. This class will also provide teachers with information to create discussions amongst parents, fellow educators, and school administrators to facilitate the creation of a plan for responding to personal and community tragedy in a way that supports the emotional needs of learners.
