THE COMMON CORE FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: THEORY AND PRACTICE IN THE 6–12 CLASSROOM
The Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts (ELA) provide a basis for the content and skills your students must know to prepare for college and career, but they do not capture the art and science of teaching nor the knowledge of students and community that a teacher brings to the classroom. This course will help the teacher bridge that gap.
This course is designed to give the teacher a deep familiarity with the Core’s content and philosophy, including shifts toward informational text, complex text, and evidence-based thinking. The course provides the teacher with opportunities to connect the Common Core in ELA to classroom practice in reading, writing, language, and speaking and listening, and offers resources and ideas for connecting with teachers and topics in other disciplines.
