EDUA 5816 Maintaining Your Passion for Teaching

BEYOND SURVIVAL MODE: MAINTAINING YOUR PASSION THROUGHOUT YOUR TEACHING CAREER

Nearly half a million teachers in the U.S. leave the profession every year. Most teachers enter the field with a deep desire to serve the next generation and make a difference in their students’ lives. However, very quickly, teachers encounter professional and emotional challenges that threaten to quench that passion and drive them toward stress and burnout. In this course, you will step back and take some time to remember why you got into teaching. You’ll identify the current roadblocks and challenges you’re facing and create a realistic plan to overcome them so you can reach the next stage in your teaching career. By examining how excellent teachers sustain their passion and high levels of effectiveness, you’ll identify the characteristics of successful teachers and look for ways to embody them in your own practice. Finally, you’ll learn about the importance of engaging in your community and staying true to your core values in the face of the inevitable changes that come in education. Using the techniques from this course, you will move beyond survival mode and engage in proven practices that will sustain you throughout your career!
