DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION
Most teachers know that students do not fall neatly into one homogeneous group- all students have different learning styles, abilities, and preferences. In a typical classroom, there are students whose skills are below grade level, at grade level, and above grade level. This means teachers must plan instruction to reach a wide range of learners, so each student is individually supported to achieve at their optimum level.
Differentiated instruction (DI) is an educational approach of tailoring instruction to meet the needs of individual students. When DI is used effectively, students are engaged in learning in the manner that suits them best without adding significant planning or instructional time. This course will help the teacher master the skills necessary to effectively differentiate instruction for optimal achievement by all students. Teachers will learn the key principles of differentiated instruction including a variety of teaching styles, activities, student groupings, and tiered lessons. After finishing the course, teachers will be equipped with strategies to successfully reach and teach every student.
