EDUA 5535 Why Good Coaches Quit

WHY GOOD COACHES QUIT

Although coaching can be meaningful, exciting, and fulfilling work, it can also be a tough job with significant pressures and stressors. When a coach is performing optimally, he or she has clear values and goals for his or her team that match the coach’s words and actions. Too often, the stress of the job, the pressure to achieve, and the overwhelming nature of additional responsibilities put a coach’s desire to continue in jeopardy.

This course aims to familiarize (or re-familiarize) the coach with the challenges of coaching that might compromise his or her ability to be an effective leader. Since the effective management of others stems from the effective management of oneself, the coach will learn techniques for juggling multiple roles, controlling stress, building emotional intelligence, and defining a clear value system that aligns with his or her goals and actions.
