EDUA 5607 The Effects of Divorce on Children
EFFECTS OF DIVORCE ON CHILDREN
For children, divorce is not a single event. It is a complex chain of events – a series of legal, social, psychological, and economic challenges, strung together and extending over time. Happily, unlike other life traumas, there are many ways children can actually grow and prosper during and after their parents’ divorce, with the proper supports and interventions.
In this course, the teacher will learn about the psychological and social obstacles that children of divorcing parents can face. The readings take the teacher through the phases of divorce, negative outcomes based on a child’s developmental stage during the divorce, and teach them how to counsel and work with students to mitigate their stress and maximize a healthful coping mindset.
