EDUA 5341 Problem Solving in Mathematics

PROBLEM SOLVING IN MATHEMATICS
The ability, and desire, to solve problems creatively and flexibly is becoming increasingly essential in today’s world, our careers, and our daily lives. Mathematics is an excellent vehicle for learning these skills, and, importantly, problem-solving is also a wonderful way to develop conceptual understanding and procedural fluency in mathematics.

This course looks at some of the research and reasons behind the movement to emphasize problem-solving as a foundation of mathematics education. Participants will look at strategies for incorporating problem-solving in the classroom, both as a goal and as a means for mathematical discovery.
